Mission

The responsibility of the Tribal Employee Rights Office (TERO) Division is to implement and enforce the TERO Code. The purpose of the Code is to promote employment of enrolled Native Americans in accordance with Federal Law; to assist employers, contractors, and subcontractors in the fair employment of Indians on or near the Reservation; to provide a contracting preference for Indian-owned business; to prevent discrimination against Indians in the employment practices of employers within the jurisdiction of the Tribe; and to establish a Tribal Employment Rights Commission and Office to further these objectives.

What We Do

TERO works with Southern Ute Tribal Members and Local Native American applicants to encourage work with companies who do work on the Southern Ute Indian Reservation.

Our story

TERO was established on February 2, 1993 with only the TERO Division Head. In 1998 two Compliance Officers and Administrative Assistant were brought in to insure that companies working on the reservation complied to the hiring preference set forth by TERO. Then in 2007 the TERO department was restructured to make up what TERO is today, a Division Head, Administrative Assistant, Compliance Officer and Career Developer. TERO has evolved 10x the department it used to be with new programs and obtaining the compliance of over 500 companies.

Programs

We offer two programs to promote employment:

  • 60 days of employment at 40 hours a week
  • 6 months of employment at 23 hours a week

With any position applied for TERO preference is given to QUALIFIED Southern Ute Tribal Members as well as Local Native Americans.

Over the years TERO has been successful in placing individuals in jobs through out the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and its entities along with other outside companies. Some are listed below:
